Terms of Service

TextReads is operated by Alabra Labs. Please read these Terms of Service (“Terms”) carefully before using TextReads (the “Service”). By installing the Chrome extension or using the website, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
The Service#
TextReads is a Text-to-Speech Chrome extension that converts web article text to audio using AI-generated voices, delivered through our cloud infrastructure.
Your Account#
Some features (the dashboard, paid plans, sync across devices) require an account. When you create one, you agree to:
- —Give us an accurate email address and keep it current.
- —Keep your password secret. Anything done from your account is your responsibility.
- —Be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA/UK).
- —Use one account per person — please don’t share logins.
- —Tell us right away at support@textreads.com if you suspect someone else is using your account.
Plans and Usage Limits#
- ·60 minutes of generated audio per calendar month, measured at 1× playback speed.
- ·Limits reset at the start of each calendar month.
- ·Once the monthly limit is reached, audio generation is paused until the next reset.
- ·Unlimited monthly audio generation.
- ·Fair use limit of 10 hours of generated audio per day to ensure service availability for all users.
- ·Exceeding the daily fair use limit may result in temporary throttling or suspension of audio generation for that day.
We reserve the right to adjust plan limits with reasonable prior notice.
Page Content#
When you press play on a webpage, you are asking us to process that page’s text on your behalf. You confirm that:
- —You have the right to read that page (it is public, you have a subscription, your employer permits it, etc.).
- —You are not using TextReads to circumvent paywalls or DRM.
- —You will not redistribute the audio we generate as if it were a stand-alone audiobook or podcast.
You keep all rights to the page content. We do not claim ownership of anything we read. As described in our Privacy Policy, page text is processed ephemerally and is never used to train models.
Acceptable Use#
You agree not to use TextReads to:
- —Generate audio that defames, harasses, or threatens a person.
- —Generate audio of content that is illegal where you live or where it is heard.
- —Impersonate another person using a synthetic voice in a way that is deceptive or unlawful.
- —Attempt to attack the Service, probe it for vulnerabilities (outside our coordinated disclosure program), or interfere with other users.
- —Resell the Service, white-label it, or expose our speech endpoints to your own customers.
- —Circumvent usage limits through automated scripts, multiple accounts, or other means.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section. If we suspect a serious violation, we may act without notice.
Intellectual Property#
- —You retain all rights to the content you listen to via the Service. We make no claim over article text processed through TextReads.
- —The TextReads name, logo, website, and extension code are owned by us. You may not use our branding without prior written permission.
Privacy#
Our use of your data is governed by our Privacy Policy. Key points:
- —Your article text is never stored on our servers permanently.
- —We do not use your data to train AI or machine learning models.
Payments and Refunds#
- —Paid plans are billed on a subscription basis (monthly or annually, as selected).
- —Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
- —By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges to your payment method. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled.
- —Failed payment grace period: If a renewal payment fails for an existing paid subscriber, your Pro access will remain active for up to 3 days while Paddle retries the charge. If payment is not resolved within 3 days, your account will be automatically downgraded to the Free plan. If your first payment as a new subscriber fails, no grace period applies and your account remains on the Free plan.
- —Refunds: Refund requests within the first 30 days of a new paid subscription are handled at our discretion via Paddle. After 30 days, refunds are not guaranteed. To request a refund, contact us at support@textreads.com.
- —Downgrading to the Free plan takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Termination#
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in abuse of the Service. You may cancel your account at any time from your dashboard. Upon termination, your access to paid features will end at the close of the current billing period.
Disclaimers#
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT AUDIO GENERATION WILL MEET YOUR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS.
Limitation of Liability#
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM. WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES.
Changes to These Terms#
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice on the website. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
Governing Law#
These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia, without regard to conflict of law principles.
